DIY Hair Wax Stick

We were at the shops the other day and my daughter begged me to buy a hair wax stick. One look at the ingredients (which included a lot of petroleum based products & synthetic fragrance) it was a no. But the compromise was I’d make her one instead.


I used ingredients that are healthy for her skin and hair, wont muck with her hormones or immune system and a bonus is that it smells amazing.


DIY HAIR WAX STICK:

2 tablespoon beeswax

1 tablespoon shea butter

2 tablespoon coconut oil

5 drops rosemary essential oil

5 drops lavender essential oil


Melt beeswax, shea butter & coconut oil using the double boiler method (in. abowl over a simmering saucepan). Once melted, remove from the heat. Add essential oils and stir, then pour straight into you container (I used a cardboard tube like this, but you can also also store it in a tin or glass jar). Leave to set (I prefer to set my in the freezer for a smoother consistency).


VARIATIONS:

  • For a stronger wax, add more beeswax

  • For a softer wax, add more coconut oil

  • To give it more of a matte finish, add 1-2 tsp arrowroot powder (this will soak up some of the oil)

6. Clary Sage Essential Oil

  • Benefits: Clary sage is great for promoting hair growth due to its phytoestrogen content, which can help regulate hormonal imbalances. It also strengthens hair and improves scalp health.


7. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

  • Benefits: Ideal for those with dry scalps and hair, ylang ylang helps stimulate sebum production, which can moisturize the scalp and prevent hair breakage. It also has a sweet floral scent that can reduce stress.


Carrier Oils to Use:

  • Coconut Oil: Deeply moisturizing and helps in penetrating the hair shaft.

  • Jojoba Oil: Closely resembles the scalp’s natural oils, making it great for balancing sebum levels.
